The purpose of the initial review is to understand the background to your business and it's use of online marketing. The outcome of the review will be a summary of the modules that would be appropriate for your situation and a proposed plan of action.

Website Review
This is a broad analysis of your website looking at:
- Structure
- Graphic Design and Layout
- Keyword usage and meta data values
- Visibility by search engines eg Google
- Quality of content (copy and images)
The result of this analysis is a report summarising key areas for improvement and a suggested prioritised action plan.
Google Analytics
Google Analytics (GA) is a free service that is used to monitor how visitors use your website. It gives vital information that allows improvements to be measured and thus maximise progress. Both you and Making Websites Work can have access to the information.
Note: There is a significant difference between GA and simple website "stats". Website statistics give basic, broad information on usage while GA can answer very specific questions to allow targeted improvements.
Google Adwords
Adwords are paid advertisements shown by Google next to the free "organic" search results. Here are some characteristics of Adwords:-
- Will display based on predefined keywords
- The location in the Adwords column depends on your bid for the keywords
- Campaigns have a configurable monthly budget
- Can be shown in specific geographies and at specific times
- Variations are possible to help optimisation
- Conversion tracking possible to measure success rates
- Display immediately the advertisement is placed
Google Adwords can be used for keyword testing, to get a quick advertising result and to target keywords that cannot be included in your website.
Adwords are not always required by a company but are a very useful marketing tool to use when appropriate.
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
We discuss and agree the keywords you want to optimise on. (These keywords are the words that Google users will enter to search for your products and/or services.) The structure of your website and the content is then analysed and an action plan formed to improve where your website is returned in the Google search results pages.
Email Newsletters
Small businesses can use a PC-based email program such as Microsoft Outlook to send bulk email newsletters. However, there are a number of issues in doing this:
- Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) may have limits on the maximum number of emails you can send to avoid SPAM emails.
- It is not as simple to generate newsletters with graphical content using your PC-based email program.
- You do not have visibility of how many people actually read your emails.
Web-based email systems exist that overcome the above problems
Creating a regular email newsletter requires that a list of email addresses is added to the online system and a template newsletter is created. Some tutition will normally be required to show how to get the most from the system.
